Our Story
The Food Medic story begins back in 2012 in Dr Hazels’ student kitchen at Cardiff University, Wales. As a recent graduate of Medical Sciences and a first-year Medical student, Hazel dreamed up The Food Medic “blog” in a bid to bridge the gap between conventional medicine and the latest research in nutrition and lifestyle.
Her passion for health promotion and prevention of disease developed after losing her father to a stroke at the age of 14, which led her on the path of becoming a doctor. Frustrated by the lack of education at medical school around nutrition and lifestyle in the management of conditions, like stroke and heart disease, Hazel decided to educate herself on these topics with the hopes of extending this support to her future patients.
And so, The Food Medic was born.
Over the years it has grown from a very basic WordPress blog to a combined community of over 1 million followers on social media, a number-one-rated health podcast, three best-selling books, an archive of hundreds of articles and nourishing recipes, and a team of experts who believe in better – better answers, better health, and better ways of living.
