In the run up to Christmas, there is chocolate EVERYWHERE and if you live in the UK or Ireland you’ve probably spotted Terry’s Chocolate oranges lining the shelves of every supermarket. Now, I’m a huge advocate of the ‘everything in moderation’ approach, but I can’t seem to moderate my intake of Terry’s chocolate oranges – it’s all or nothing! So get my choccy kick, I was inspired to create these gorgeous chocolate orange oats. They take 5 minutes to make and they are so incredibly delicious! In addition to their awesome taste, they’re also relatively low in sugar and a good source of fibre.
Chocolate Orange OatmealPrint This
- 40g of porridge oats
- 250ml of milk (or water)
- 2 tsp of cocoa powder
- 1 TBSP maple syrup/honey
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Juice of 1/2 orange
- To serve: 1 square of dark chocolate, grated
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over a medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until all of the liquid has been absorbed. Add more milk or a runnier porridge.
- Pour into a bowl and sprinkle grated chocolate on top. Serve immediately!
The dark cocoa makes them quite rich so one bowl is very satisfying. If I don’t mind a little bitterness of the recipe, feel free to use more of your chosen sweetener and reduce the amount of cocoa.
