I find it hard to switch off. To take a second. To press pause.
I’ve tried meditation, yoga, and breathing techniques, but regardless of what I try my mind still wanders back to the background noise in my life – like my to-do list, or that email I need to respond to, or what I need to do when I go home.
What really relaxes me? Working out. Yep, a hard, sweaty, endorphin-driven workout – and probably the last thing most people would consider as their idea of escapism. When I am in the gym it is the only 45 minutes of my week where I am totally focused on the one task, and the only time i’m totally focused on me.
Exercising to lose weight or build muscle is fine if your goal is purely physical, but having the resilience to push yourself through a hard workout does a lot more than strengthen your body – it strengthens your mind and focuses your attention. Every session isn’t about absolutely destroying yourself, but challenging yourself and taking your body, and mind, to the next level.
Like most people, my life is pretty busy, and I used to feel really guilty for taking time out to myself. Now I know that checking in with myself regularly, and pressing pause on life, is really important in preventing myself from burning out.
This is why I’m really excited to be working with Origins on their #PressPause campaign.
With the launch of their new RitualiTea mask collection, which encourages us to take a moment to #PressPause. Their new collection of tea infused anti-oxidant rich powder facemasks – Oolong La, Feeling Rosy, and Matcha Madness – are inspired by all of the beautiful tea rituals from around the world.
I’m a HUGE fan of matcha because it is a packed full of nutrients and antioxidants, so Matcha Madness is obviously my favourite of the collection! I’m a firm believer that what we put onto our bodies, and our skin, is just as important as what we put into them. Although we are only applying the mask for 10 minutes, it is enough to leave your skin looking and feeling totally rejuvenated and fresh. I try to do this at least once a week as part of my normal skin care routine to give it that little extra TLC.
The RitualiTea mask comes in the form of a powder and is transformed into a beautiful silky foam with a little bit of water. I make my mask in the Origins Mixing Bowl and stir it up with the spoon end of their dual mixing tool and then apply it to my face with the other side of the tool. While it sinks into my skin, I use those ten minutes to blend up my post-workout smoothie and sip on it while I stretch.
Have you discovered the Origins RitualiTea collection yet? I would love for you to share you #PressPause moment with me!
